DVX Pro

DVX Pro is the new deer antler velvet extract available from XPI Supplements. With dozens of deer antler products available, XPI claims DVX Pro, available in pill or liquid form, stands above the competition.

I took an in-depth look at the ingredients, dosage, and manufacturer to determine if DVX Pro really does offer more than other products.

What’s Inside?

There is only one ingredient in DVX Pro: deer antler velvet. Because it is offered in both liquid and capsule form, there are different dosages depending on your choice. The liquid contains 200 mg of deer antler velvet, and the capsule contains 1500 mg.

Liquids typically have a lower dose than capsules or powders, so the difference here doesn’t surprise me. However, the large capsule dose, 1500 mg, is shocking. Most deer antler supplements require two doses per day to reach 1500 mg, and DVX Pro does it in one.

Deer Antler Velvet

This ingredient is harvested from the soft outer layer of growing deer antlers, the part that looks like velvet, hence the name. It’s become popular as a muscle-growth enhancer because it contains high amount of IGF-1, a naturally-occurring protein. There are several clinically studies that verify the effectiveness of this compound.

Researchers examined muscle growth in men in a placebo-controlled study. They looked at tissue regeneration, VO2 max, and endurance. There were no increases in VO2 max or testosterone levels, but both strength and endurance improved significantly. [1]

Another study examined IGF-1’s effect on hormone levels. They found that IGF-1 has many of the same effects as growth hormone. It improves muscle growth, strength, and athletic performance without adverse side effects or reactions. [2]

There is also evidence to suggest that IGF-1 benefits bone health, improving density and regeneration. This may seem less important, but bone strength is very important for vigorous exercise and overall health. [3]

Who Makes It?

DVX Pro is manufactured by XPI Supplements. This company has been around for several years and is known for their muscle-building line, which includes products like Myotein, Syntheroid, and MyoSwell.

XPI Supplements is well-reviewed, with 27,000 Facebook followers, and has a strong reputation for customer support. Their site is McAfee secured, and all products are covered by a 90-day money-back guarantee, even if the product has been used.

In addition to the guarantee, the majority of XPI Supplement products ship free, so your costs remain low.

I’m impressed by the honest, open policies of XPI Supplements and their comprehensive refund policy. I would feel no hesitation in purchasing from them.

Are There Any Side Effects?

There are no known side effects associated with deer antler velvet. Naturally, any ingredient can be dangerous if taken in large quantities, but you would have to consume a ridiculously large amount of DVX Pro to experience adverse effects.

While there are no common reported side effects, if you are taking any kind of medication or hormone therapy, check with your doctor before taking any deer antler velvet supplement.

Pick It or Pitch It?

I really like DVX Pro. It has an extremely high amount of deer antler velvet, which makes dosage much easier. While it seems slightly more expensive than other option, the price per dose is actually lower.

There are no filler ingredients or proprietary blend, and XPI Supplement is a rock-solid brand. You can even return any product if you don’t like it.

DVX Pro is easily the best deer antler velvet supplement I’ve reviewed. I highly recommend it.

DVS Liquiform

DVS Liquiform is a deer antler extract supplement in liquid form, which is a plus for those who aren’t keen on taking several pills and capsules.

DVS Liquiform’s ingredient profile is transparent and simple. It contains 1 ingredient: deer antler extract.

I looked closer at DVS Liquiform to see if it is effective.

Deer Antler Extract

DVS Liquiform provides 250 mg deer antler extract per serving. Deer antler velvet is found on developing deer antlers, and it is studied for its ability to enhance workout performance.

In one study, test subjects were given a placebo or a deer antler extract twice a day while undergoing performance tests measuring maximal aerobic capacity, maximum power output, and 1-rep maximum on the bench press and squat.

Researchers noted both groups’ 1-rep maximum increased and both groups experienced a reduction in average and peak power post-intervention period; however, the deer antler velvet group’s reduction was less significant than the placebo group. [1]

Another study analyzed deer antler velvet extract’s effects on maximal aerobic performance and muscular strength and endurance. Test subjects underwent performance tests before and after 10 weeks of strength training and supplementation with deer antler velvet extract or a placebo.

Both groups experienced improvements in 6 rep-max strength, but researchers note “there was a greater increase in isokinetic knee extensor strength… in the powder compared to placebo group.” [2]

Is DVS Liquiform Safe?

The manufacturer website doesn’t mention any specific side effects associated with DVS Liquiform.

What Is the Best Way to Take DVS Liquiform?

One benefit of DVS Liquiform is it may be taken with pre-workout and protein supplements.

Ingredient instructions indicate users should take 2-3 servings per day. Each serving consists of 30 drops. We recommend starting with a small dose to assess tolerance. Once tolerance is assessed, increase to the recommended dosage.

Is DVS Liquiform Expensive?

One bottle of DVS Liquiform retails for around $24.95 and provides 60 servings.

This serving-to-price ratio is average, if not a little better than competing supplements like Royal Velvet, which provides 60 servings but retails for $65.00 per bottle.

Additionally, the manufacturer website lists an option to buy 3 DVS Liquiform bottles for $64.95, which is something to look at if you plan on supplementing with deer antler extract for an extended time period.

Final Thoughts on DVS Liquiform

DVS Liquiform’s consumer friendly ingredient label is attractive. No filler ingredients or proprietary blends are used. Consumers know exactly how much deer antler extract they get per serving.
The research surrounding the main ingredient is promising, and the price per bottle is competitive.

MHP Secretagogue-One

MHP advertises Secretagogue-One as the perfect tool for improving physical performance, speeding recovery, and enhancing cardiac output.

According to the official site, Secretagogue-One features human growth factors and IGF-1 precursors to address “issues of vital importance for health, wellness, and physical performance.”

Yet is MHP Secretagogue-One a good choice for athletes? Let’s dig a little deeper to find out.

Key Ingredients

The first step to determining a good product is to analyze ingredients. Here’s a few of MHP Secretagogue-One’ primary components.

Glycine. Glycine is an amino acid used in protein production and chemical transmissions in the brain. Some researchers study glycine for its potential to prevent certain types of cancer, but most athletes use glycine to protect skeletal muscle. Studies show glycine preserves muscle function and energy stores. [1][2]

Glutamine. This amino acid counters the negative effects of certain medical treatments by boosting the immune system and protecting the digestive system from radiochemotherapy. According to WebMD experts, glutamine provides fuel (nitrogen and carbon) to many different cells in the body, and is necessary to repair wounds and maintain muscle. [3]

Tyrosine. Tyrosine is a basic building block for protein, and it is involved in the production of chemical messengers that keep the brain alert. Recent studies show tyrosine counteracts the negative effects of extended wakefulness[4], making it a useful tool for maintaining energy levels during a workout.

Arginine. Arginine is converted into nitric oxide, a chemical which dilates blood vessels to improve blood flow. Researchers found supplemental arginine taken regularly increases exercise capacity.[5]

GABA. GABA is popularly used to relieve anxiety and improve mood. Many use GABA to promote lean muscle growth, burn fat, and stabilize blood pressure as well. According to studies, GABA causes significant elevation in growth hormone levels. [6]

Should You Worry About Side Effects?

MHP Secretagogue-One utilizes all-natural ingredients backed by research, so it’s fairly safe to use.

However, it does have a few ingredients known to affect blood pressure. If you are taking blood pressure medication, be sure to ask your doctor before using MHP Secretagogue-One.

Available Flavors

MHP Secretagogue-One is available in two flavors on the official website: Lemon Ice and Orange. According to users on Bodybuilding.com, both flavors are excellent.

“Well I can say it taste awesome. I look forward to having me a glass every night before bed.” – Audiemilner

“Very good taste. Easy to mix.” – BWLEHRER

“This stuff tastes great.” – Todd5789

IGF-1 Protocol

Claimed to be the secret to dramatic increases in muscle mass, fat burning, and anti-aging, IGF-1 Protocol offers everything you need to achieve ultimate health.

According to the official site, this supplement was developed after years of research and features a wide array of clinically proven ingredients.

When used regularly, IGF-1 Protocol provides a “never-ending list of benefits.”

Yet is IGF-1 Protocol an ideal choice?

Key Ingredients

As with any performance enhancing supplement, the secret to IGF-1 Protocol’s success lies in its formula. When I first looked at the label, I was impressed to find the following ingredients:

Deer Antler Velvet. Deer antler velvet is quickly becoming one of the most controversial ingredients in athletics. While legal to use in sports competitions, it contains the component IGF-1, a precursor hormone which mediates muscle growth and is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. In fact, studies have shown IGF-1 stimulates muscle growth by inhibiting protein breakdown. [1]

Mucuna Pruriens. Also known as cowhage, this herb supplies a healthy dose of levodopa (L-dopa), a compound which stimulates the release of human growth hormone (HGH) [2]. Additionally, researchers have found mucuna pruriens doubles as a treatment for Parkinson’s disease. [3]

GABA. GABA plays an important role in nerve transmission in the brain, but it has a more powerful effect on HGH. Studies show GABA supplements stimulate HGH secretion, resulting in significant increases when subjects were given 300 mg after an overnight fast. [4]

Alpha GPC. Alpha GPC is a powerful antioxidant commonly used to improve carbohydrate breakdown and boost energy. Additionally, researchers have found alpha GPC enhances growth hormone function, especially when given to elderly subjects. [5]

L-Glutamine. Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue, and it is a powerful immunity booster. In a recent study, oral glutamine increased HGH secretion within 90 minutes after consumption. [6]

L-Arginine. Arginine is an amino acid that improves blood flow. Recent research has found it also has a positive effect on growth hormone response. Subjects taking dose-dependent arginine supplements experienced an increase in growth hormone levels by at least 100%. When combined with exercise, this production percentage doubles. [7]

L-Isoleucine. Isoleucine is a branched chain amino acid, or BCAA. According to WebMD experts, BCAAs stimulate muscle growth and reduce muscle breakdown. [8]

Epimedium. Also known as horny goat weed, epimedium is popularly used as an ingredient for male enhancement due to its ability to promote blood flow and support sexual function. Epimedium features the chemical icariin, which mimics testosterone and increases the production of NO for improved pumps. [9][10]

L-Tyrosine. Tyrosine is an amino acid popularly used to reduce stress. As stress has a negative impact on HGH production, this ingredient could be a useful tool for improving its secretion. In recent research tyrosine effectively reduced blood pressure and cognitive performance in subjects under physical stress. [11]

As you can see, each of these ingredients is clinically proven to boost HGH production or improve muscle growth.

Potential Risks and Side Effects

A few of IGF-1 Protocol’s ingredients are known to cause mild side effects. For example, arginine reduces blood pressure, and when taken with blood pressure medication it could cause blood pressure to drop to dangerous levels. [12]

Fortunately, IGF-1 Protocol utilizes ingredients in safe amounts and there are no side effects reported from IGF-1 Protocol use.

Recommended Usage

To maximize results, use IGF-1 Protocol before bedtime and in the morning before breakfast. Spray 3-6 times under the tongue, hold for a few seconds, and then swallow. Shake well before use.

As with any supplement, it’s best to combine IGF-1 Protocol with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Is IGF-1 Protocol A Good Choice?

IGF-1 Protocol offers a good selection of ingredients to maximize workout results. It is backed with plenty of research, making it a reliable supplement for any user.

I think IGF-1 Protocol looks like a great deal, but what do you think?

Deer Antler Velvet Pro

Deer Antler Velvet Pro may be new, but already it’s turning heads with its 750 mg serving size of 100% pure deer antler powder.

Whereas many similar products offer smaller dosages and fillers, Deer Antler Velvet Pro features a single ingredient that exceeds the typical 1 g dosage used by scientists.

According to the official website, deer antler velvet is composed of over 400 active ingredients, including IGF-1 which is used for building muscle.

Let’s look at the formula to see whether it’s a good choice.

What’s Under the Lid?

Deer Antler Velvet Pro features a single ingredient: deer antler velvet at 750 mg per serving. As stated before, there are no additional fillers or ingredients, so you get more bang for your buck. However, just because it has only one ingredient doesn’t mean it won’t give you results.

According to deer antler harvesters, deer antler velvet is composed of the following components.[1]

Proteins and Growth Factors:

• Amino Acids – precursors for protein production and muscle growth.
• IGF-1 and IGF-2 – precursors for human growth hormone (HGH) production and muscle growth.
• Collagen – a protein necessary for healthy bone, tendons, and connective tissue.

Glycosaminoglycans (GAG’s):

• Glucosamine Sulphate – builds and maintains joints, bones, and tendons.
• Chondroitin Sulphate – protects and rebuilds cartilage.
• Hyaluronic acid – binds cartilage cells and lubricates joints.

Lipids:

• Phospholipids – enhances cellular activities and repairs structural damage.
• Glycosphingolipids – regulates cell growth and metabolism.
• Prostaglandins – supports muscle relaxation and contraction.

Minerals:

• Calcium – builds and maintains bones and supports muscle contraction.
• Phosphorus – provides structure for bones and is important for heart and kidney function.
• Magnesium – restores and releases cell energy for muscle and nerve function.

Trace Elements:

• Zinc – necessary for more than 90 enzyme reactions and muscle repair.
• Iron – essential for transporting oxygen in the blood.
• Selenium – reduces infections, protects cells against oxidative stress.

This is just a fraction of what comprises deer antler velvet. While additional studies are needed to determine concentrations for these components, the sheer number of helpful chemicals is overwhelming.

Why You Should Choose Capsules

Many deer antler velvet advocates assert deer antler sprays are the better option when it comes to ingredient absorption. While this may be true for a few products, there are multiple reasons why Deer Antler Velvet Pro comes in capsules.

First, the product is easy to use and easy to swallow when in capsule form. Some sprays require extensive regimens and timing to maximize absorption. Furthermore, they often contain additional ingredients to make them more palatable. Choosing a deer antler velvet capsule eliminates the headache of scheduling and the need for additional flavorings.

Second, deer antler velvet capsules are acceptable to use in sports competitions whereas many sprays are not. According to the Banned Substances Control Group, “ingesting the IGF-1 is unlikely to be construed as a violation of drug testing regulations,” while on the other hand “using a spray form of deer antler concentrated to contain certain amounts of IGF-1 . . . would likely constitute a doping violation.” [2]

Choosing Deer Antler Velvet Pro capsules reduces the risk of IGF-1 showing up on a drug test. This makes Deer Antler Velvet Pro a better choice if you’re a professional athlete.

Safety Concerns

While Deer Antler Velvet Pro is completely legal to use in sports competitions, it’s always a good idea to chat with your doctor before trying any new supplement.

This is because deer antler velvet is known to cause the occasional allergic reaction[3], and it has not been studied for its interactions with prescription medication. Consequently, exercising a little caution before use will go a long way.

Fortunately, Deer Antler Velvet Pro should not cause any negative side effects, even with its high dosages.

How Long to Use Deer Antler Velvet?

Each Deer Antler Velvet Pro bottle contains 60 capsules. According to manufacturers, this should last approximately 30 to 60 days depending on your dosage.

Keep in mind, however, “Deer antler velvet’s effects are gradual, cumulative and develop over time. Therefore, it is important to use [. . .] deer antler velvet products on a consistent basis to receive the full benefits.” [4]

Consequently, you’ll want to use the entire bottle of Deer Antler Velvet Pro before deciding whether it’s worth continuing.

Product Pricing and Guarantee

Currently, Deer Antler Velvet Pro is available from DeerAntlerVelvetPro.com for the following prices:

• 1 Month Supply: $39.99 + 4.95 Shipping
• 2 Month Supply: $59.99 + 4.95 Shipping + 1 Free Xtreme ZMA

What Do You Think?

Deer Antler Velvet Pro seems like a great product for a great price. The 750 mg per serving is remarkable when compared to similar deer antler supplements.

Because Deer Antler Velvet Pro is safe to use on a regular basis and comes completely risk-free, it looks like a worthwhile product.

However, I’m open to user opinions and would love to see what you think about this promising new capsule. So, leave your comment below!

Muscleology RedTest

Advertisements for Muscleology RedTest claim it “Unleash[es] the animal inside. RedTest will boost your body’s ability to elevate your natural testosterone levels.”

Muscleology promises RedTest enhances muscle gains, increases IGF-1 levels, and elevates red blood cells.

Can Muscleology RedTest live up to all the claims? I did some research to find out for myself.

Inside Muscleology RedTest

Muscleology RedTest contains three proprietary blends. Below I break down the blends and the science behind each ingredient.

Proprietary Blend TB-5 DiLutinize

This blend supplies a total of 1635 mg.

N-Methyl-D-Aspartate

N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) is an amino acid derivative that mimics the action of glutamine. [1]

In animals, NMDA increases GnRH (Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), and PRL (Prolactin). [2]

Studies show NMDA is useful in the treatment of chronic pain. However, more studies need to be done to determine an effective dosage. [3]

Long Jack 100: 1 Extract

In many countries long jack, or tongkat ali, is used to improve physical strength and combat stress. [4]

Long jack also increases testosterone levels. In one study, 76 patients were given 200 mg long jack for 1 month. Results showed a significant increase in testosterone serum levels. [4]

Because long jack is part of a proprietary blend, it’s hard to tell if there is enough to be effective. But, I assume there is enough to bring some results.

20-Hydroxyecdysterone (Cyanotis Vaga)

20-hydroxyecdysterone is a hormone found in the plant cyanotis vaga. Many believe it enhances physical performance. However, experts agree there is no clinical evidence to support this. [5]

Tribulus Terrestris Extract

Tribulus Terrestris is a plant purported to enhance physical performance. However, studies suggest otherwise.

In one study, a group of rugby players were given 450 mg tribulus terrestris or a placebo along with 5 weeks of training. Both groups experienced gains in muscle strength, and body
composition. Because the placebo group experienced the same gains, tribulus terrestris was shown to be ineffective in physical performance. [6]

Avena Sativa 10:1 Extract

Avena sativa is an herb extracted from oats and is used to treat high cholesterol, anxiety, and sexual problems. [7]

Animal studies show avena sativa has antioxidant properties, but experts agree more research is needed to determine specific benefits. [8]

I was not able to find any human studies on avena sativa; therefore, I can’t determine avena sativa’s effectiveness in RedTest.

Velvet Deer Antler

Velvet deer antler is tissue taken from the antlers of young deer.

Studies show in doses of over 2 g, velvet deer antler increases muscle strength and performance. Results also show an increase in aerobic capacity. [9]

Because velvet deer antler is part of a small proprietary blend, there is likely not enough in Muscleology RedTest to be effective.

Proprietary Blend Bio-Active Stimugen 1

This blend totals 796 mg.

Fadogia Agrestis

Fadogia agrestis is a plant from Nigeria claimed to increase sex drive, athletic performance, and muscle mass. However, WebMD experts say there is not enough evidence to support any of these functions. [10]

Muira Puama 10:1 Extract

Muria puama supposedly increases sex drive and testosterone levels.

But, research shows natural aphrodisiacs like murina puama are not effective in enhancing sexual function or testosterone levels. [11]

Nettle Root 10:1 Extract

Nettle root is a plant with many purported uses including urination problems. However, experts find it is only effective as a diuretic. [12] I could not find any studies linking it to testosterone levels or muscle gain.

Horny Goat Weed 20:1 Extract

Horny goat weed, also known as epimedium, is an herb often used to treat joint pain, memory loss, high blood pressure, heart disease, and sexual performance.

Despite its popularity, experts say there is not enough evidence to support any of these functions.[13]

Maca Root 4:1 Extract
In one study, subjects were given 1500 mg of a maca supplement or placebo. Results showed maca increased sexual desire but did not increase testosterone levels. [14]

Chaste Tree Berry Extract

The chaste tree berry is most commonly used for menstrual cycle irregularities and premenstrual syndrome in women. WebMD experts say the chaste tree berry is also used to reduce sexual desire. [15]

I was not able to find any studies linking the chaste tree berry to increases in testosterone or muscle.

Cnidium Monnier 4:1 Extract

Cnidium monnier is said to increase sexual performance, sex drive, and testosterone levels. Yet, experts say there is insufficient evidence to support these claims. [16]

Xanthoparmelia 4:1 Extract

Xanthoparmelia is a type of lichen used to treat sexual dysfunction and increase sexual desire. However, there is insufficient evidence to suggest it improves either of these. [17]

Proprietary Blend Regenex

This blend contains a total of 373.5 mg.

Orchic Gland Tissue

Orchic gland tissue theoretically shrinks prostate gland and relieves pain. However, I wasn’t able to find research linking orchic gland tissue to health benefits of any kind.
Anterior Pituitary Gland Tissue

The anterior pituitary is an organ of the endocrine system. It regulates physiological processes like stress, growth, and reproduction. [18]

I was not able to find any research on anterior pituitary gland tissue supplementation and its benefits.

Hypothalamus Gland Tissue

The hypothalamus is located in the brain and is responsible for secreting hormones that support the function of the pituitary gland. [19]

I was not able to find any research suggesting what benefits hypothalamus gland tissue supplementation might provide.

Warnings and Side Effects

The label listed the following warnings:

Warning: Do not take this product if you are nursing, taking prescription medication, or taking MAO inhibitors. Do not take if you are at risk or have been treated for, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disease, depression, liver disease, seizures, stroke, diabetes, or enlarged prostate.

Warning: The ingredient Xanthoparmelia is considered unsafe because it contains chemicals that kill healthy body cells. [17]

Possible side effects of horny goat weed and chaste tree berry extract include dizziness, vomiting, dry mouth, thirst, nosebleed, breathing problems, weight gain, and upset stomach. [13] [15]

How to Take Muscleology RedTest

Every bottle of Muscleology RedTest contains 20 servings. One serving is 6 capsules.

Take 2 capsules 10 minutes before breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Do not take in the morning on an empty stomach.

If you are looking for a similar supp. I would recommend you try this one.” –salcidot

“This stuff helped me achieve PR’s and push through some serious workouts while on a caloric deficit..a huge one. It also increased my libido which was a plus.”
“This was a dud for me. Used it for a little over a month and my test levels actually dropped in that time period. I have used other products with similar ingredients and had decent results. Maybe the purity of the ingredients but what ever it was this product was a waste of good money from my end.” – notfalling1

“I felt little to no difference with this product. Have had much better luck with others. I will not order again.” –jasonlinn

More About Muscleology

Muscleology is a team of scientists, researchers and fitness fanatics producing products for elite athletes or those just starting out on their fitness goals. Muscleology says seeing its customers achieve results motivates them to continue to make products that “flat out work.”

Final Thoughts

While many of the ingredients in Muscleology RedTest have little science behind them, there are a couple that do increase testosterone levels and treat pain.

After looking at the customer reviews, I found this product does work for some people. It looks like some websites carry it for a reduced price, so it may be worth a try!

NutraKey Red Deer Antler

NutraKey promises its product Red Deer Antler increases testosterone, enhances muscle performance, elevates energy, and stimulates growth hormone production.

The company also says Red Deer Antler is pharmaceutical grade, free of yeast, dairy, gluten, and artificial ingredients.

Can NutraKey Red Deer Antler do all of this with one ingredient? I researched its formula to find out.

The Single Ingredient

NutraKey Red Deer Antler is comprised of New Zealand red deer antler velvet. Deer Antler Velvet is taken from the young deer antlers before they become hard.

In one study, researchers compared New Zealand deer antler velvet (NZDAV) to a placebo. Subjects took 1350 mg NZDAV twice a day, once in the morning and again at night. After NZDAV supplementation subjects saw a significant decrease in body fat, fat weight, and trunk-to-limb fat weight ratio. The NZDAV group also saw significant improvements in the bench press, the squat, and aerobic capacity. [1]

If used in the recommended dosage, NutraKey Red Deer Antler provides 500 mg of deer antler velvet a day. This isn’t enough to see results as strong as found in this study.

Studies show deer antler velvet does not affect hormone levels, including testosterone. [2] [3]

I wasn’t able to find any studies connecting deer antler velvet to growth hormone production. Deer antler velvet does contain growth factor IGF-1, which can increase HGH levels. However, the amount of IGF-1 contained in deer antler velvet is determined by what the deer was fed and how old it was. So it’s hard to know how much IGF-1 is contained in deer antler velvet supplements and if it will be effective. [4]

Side Effects

There are no recorded side effects of NutraKey Red Deer Antler.

Not enough is known about deer antler velvet to know if the ingredient itself has any possible side effects.

Directions

Each bottle comes with 60 servings. Take 1 capsule with any beverage twice daily on an empty stomach. Take the first capsule in the morning and the second 1 hour before lunch.

Should You Try It?

It looks like NutraKey Red Deer Antler has the potential to increase muscle mass and performance. However, there is no research to back up claims of rising testosterone or HGH levels.

If you are looking for a way to enhance your muscle performance, this could be a good and inexpensive route for you. However I wouldn’t recommend this product for any other uses.

DVS Raw

Applied Nutrition and Science claim its product DVS Raw helps post-recovery and naturally supports HGH levels.

Applied Nutrition and Science says, “If you are looking for an all natural product to help maximize your results and help you obtain your fitness goals, then DVS Raw is crucial to your supplementation and diet routine.”

Is DVS Raw all it is advertised to be? Let me share the research I found on DVS Raw.

What Is DVS Raw?

DVS Raw features one ingredient: deer antler velvet. Each serving contains 1,100 mg.

Deer antler velvet is a type of cartilaginous tissue found in the unhardened antlers of young deer. In traditional Chinese medicine, deer antler velvet is believed to give energy and stamina. [1]

Deer antler velvet has growth factor IGF-1, but the amount in the velvet depends on what the deer was fed, the age of the deer, and how old the antlers were when they were taken. Because of this, it’s difficult to tell the amount of growth factors in deer antler velvet supplements. [1]

Studies observing the effects of deer antler velvet are mixed.

In one study, 32 males with weight lifting training were assigned to take a placebo or 1340 mg deer antler velvet twice daily. Those taking deer antler velvet experienced a significant decrease in body fat percentage, and trunk-to-limb fat weight ratio. The deer antler velvet group also saw a 9.8% increase in aerobic capacity. [2]

In another study, 38 active males were randomly assigned to take deer antler velvet extract, powder, or a placebo. Those taking the deer antler velvet powder saw an increase in isokinetic knee extensor strength when compared to other groups. There was no increase in IGF-1 growth factor in the deer antler velvet group. [3]

At the end of this study, due to inconsistencies and lack of evidence of erythropoetic or aerobic ergogenic effects, researchers concluded further work is needed to conclude benefits of deer antler velvet. [3]

The study finding deer antler velvet to be effective used 1340 mg twice a day. This is much more than the amount found in DVS Raw. This makes me skeptical of the product’s effectiveness.

Are There Side Effects?

According to experts at WebMD, not enough is known about deer antler velvet to determine possible side effects. [4]

However, consumers and studies haven’t shown any negative effects of using deer antler velvet. [1]

How To Use DVS Raw

To use as a dietary supplement, take 2 capsules a day. For loading take 4 capsules a day for 1-2 weeks.

Where To Buy DVS Raw

DVS Raw can be purchased from eSupplements.com for $22.95. Each bottle comes with 30 servings, each serving is 2 capsules.

eSupplements.com has a 60-day money-back guarantee for one opened bottle and any other unopened bottles. You could use an entire bottle and still return it if it didn’t work for you.

You can also buy DVS Raw from Deerantlersupplements.net for $23.95. They sell only deer antler velvet supplements and also offer a money-back guarantee.

What Customers Think

What I Think

The research on deer antler velvet is severely lacking. However, customer reviews show DVS Raw works for some people.

DVS Raw has a reasonable price tag, and it could work for you, so it may be worth a try.

NOW IGF-1

Marketed to speed workout and injury recovery time and improve muscle build, NOW IGF-1 looks tempting.

With only a few ingredients, this supplement supposedly helps users build muscle in a hurry.

But does it work and is it safe? I dug a little deeper, and here is what I found.

Ingredient Formula

NOW IGF-1 offers a few ingredients. Here’s my research on those ingredients.

Deer Antler Velvet Extract (1.1 mg). Deer antler velvet is used to increase testosterone and improve strength and endurance. It is also used to treat erectile dysfunction and other sexual problems. [1]

Deer antler velvet is a powerful ingredient that is banned by some professional organizations, including the NFL. While this ingredient is popular and many bodybuilders and athletes laud its effectiveness, there are very few studies to prove it has any effect. [1]

One 2003 study showed deer antler velvet improves knee strength and endurance, but the findings were declared insignificant. [2]

IGF-1 (27.5 mg). IGF-1 is insulin-like growth factor-1. This is a hormone that acts similar to human growth hormone. It builds muscles and improves tendon and muscle injury recovery time. Because IGF-1 works similarly to HGH, it is also banned in professional sports. [3]

IGF-1 seems to work, though there are few human studies to show it promotes muscle growth. However, animal studies show IGF-1 is effective. In some studies, animals injected with IGF-1 see quick muscle growth and faster healing of injured tendons [3]

Stevia (1.6 mg). Stevia is an all-natural sweetener plant extract that is healthier than sugar or most artificial sweeteners. It is a zero calorie sweetener and is used across the world. [4]

How to Use NOW IGF-1

NOW IGF-1 spray is easy to use. Shake the bottle, and spray 2 times in your mouth. Hold it for a few seconds, and then swallow.

This spray can be used two to three times per day.

What Users Think

While NOW-IGF-1’s ingredients may be banned for professional athletes, nothing stops the rest of us from using it. Here are a few reviews from real customers from Bodybuilding.com.

“Added 15 pounds to my bench already and have set multiple personal records the last couple weeks.” –crottinger

“In the first 2 to 3 weeks . . . I noticed a tremendous change. My strength was increased. I went from a 405 squat to a 435 . . . great toning effect.” –plastered70

“It seems to cut down recovery time for me.” –lowblowjoe

“It helped me recover a partially torn MCL and the effects and recovery time from working out were awesome!” –nolancorbitt

“I’ve tried other IGF sprays and this one is a complete joke. Straight up flavored water.”

“I don’t feel more energized or any stronger while lifting at the gym. I don’t feel less sore after track workouts. I followed directions on the label to a tee and can honestly say the spray provided no added benefit(s) for me.” –coreylvaughn

As you can see, NOW IGF-1 spray seems to be hit or miss. Most users seem to love it or hate it.

What You Will Pay

All supplements that contain insulin-like growth factor and deer antler extract are pricey. NOW IGF-1 is more affordable than other brands, however. Each bottle is one ounce. Here are the best prices I found online:

• Bodybuilding.com: $16.99
• Drugstore.com: $19.99
• VitaminLife.com: $25.44
• BulkApothecary.com: $16.79

Should You Try NOW IGF-1?

If you want to try a deer antler and IGF spray, this one might be a good option. It is much more affordable than similar supplements and it has some very positive reviews.

However, if you play professional sports, check to see if this supplement’s ingredients are legal for your use.
